Chewsday Review- Coco & Lucas Spaghetti Bolognese

There's a new section in the supermarket freezer aisles, and it's dedicated to kids. Nope, it's not the nugget section, but several shelves of frozen meals designed just for kids. Annabel Karmel products have been stocked by Coles for a while and have now made their way into Woolies (you can read my review of the Bolognese Pasta Bake here). In WA and NSW we also now have Coco and Lucas frozen meals. There are options like Spaghetti Bolognese, Beef Cottage Pie and Mild Butter Chicken. Let's see how the Spaghetti Bolognese compares to nutritional guidelines, and to the AK and Heinz Bolognese (in the baby aisle- previous review here)... 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Pasta (40%), tomato (22%), beef (17%), wa

Chewsday Review- Vaalia Kids yoghurt

Yoghurt reviews are always interesting. I cannot believe how many different yoghurts there are on the shelves, particularly those marketed to kids. Today's is one of the more expensive yoghurts- so how does it stack up nutritionally? 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Whole milk, skim milk, water, sugar, milk solids, tropical fruit, rice starch, gelatin, flavours, acidity regulators, live cultures. 🔹The tropical 'fruit', which is mainly pineapple juice and orange juice, makes up 3% of this product. A serve of this yoghurt provides about 3% of a serve of fruit. 🔹Gelatin and rice starch give this yoghurt its thick texture and glossy appearance. 🔶The positives: 🔹The sugar content of Vaalia Kids yoghurt meets

Well, today's Chewsday Review will dish the dirt on these vege versions! 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Potato starch, lentil flour, sunflower oil, sea salt 🔹Common allergens include: may contain traces of sesame seeds 🔶The positives: 🔹Saturated fat and sugar within healthy guidelines. This is the same as Red Rock Deli chips, and about half the saturated fat content of Smith's original chips. 🔹Contain some fibre (but not very much). A 20g serving provides enough fibre to meet 3.5% of a

Chewsday Review- Despicable Me Choc Mousse

Are kiddie desserts any better than adult desserts? Can chocolate mousse be made especially for kids? Today's review considers the Despicable Me Choc Mousse. 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Milk, cream, sugar, milk chocolate (7.5%), concentrated skim milk, cocoa gelatine, thickeners, emulsifier (472b), natural flavour. 🔹Emulsifier 472b comes from glycerol and helps keep the product texture consistent. It is well tolerated by most people and not an additive of concern. 🔹Cream, sugar and chocolate are three of the four main ingredients and are NOT 'everyday foods' 🔶 The positives: 🔹Portioned into child size servings so you don't have to be responsible for serving equal portions to siblings! 🔹42c per ser
