Chewsday Review- Brownes 'A Hint of...Chocolate Milk'

Brownes have recently released a flavoured milk range with NO ADDED SUGAR! You might have seen the ads on TV with the little boy pouring the milk all over the kitchen table (on a side note, I find the marketing here particularly curious. Surely no parent in their right mind wants their toddler handling a full 2 litre container of milk. I struggle not to spill when pouring a full bottle and I have relatively good motor skills! I just don't see how this make anyone want to buy the product?!) Anyway, back to the sugar free thing. Surely it's too good to be true? Let's take a closer look at Brownes Dairy A Hint Of Chocolate Milk. 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Milk, cocoa (0.75%), natural flavours 🔹No furthe

Chewsday Review- Only Organic Apple Custard

A couple of requests for a Chewsday Review featuring custard. Is custard just a junk food, or is it an ok option for a snack? Today I'm featuring a baby custard, but I will include regular custard soon! The chosen brand today is Only Organic Apple Custard. This brand hasn't done super well in previous reviews so let's see how this holds up! 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Water, apple juice concentrate, whole milk powder, corn starch, sugar, apple, rice flour, cinnamon, vanilla extract, vitamin C, emulsifier 🔹Milk powder makes up 5% of this product and apple makes up 2.5%. This means that water and apple juice concentrate make up over 80% of the custard... 😱 🔹Common allergens include: milk, soy 🔶The po

Chewsday Review- Roasted Chic Peas (lightly salted)

There’s been a few requests for a Chewsday Review of these interesting snack foods. They’re roasted chickpeas, so they sound healthy, but are they any different from roasted potato slices (e.g. chips)?! Let’s see… 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Chickpeas, canola oil, sea salt, garlic powder 🔹Chickpeas make up 90% of the product, and the oil for roasting makes up another 9% or so. 🔹Common allergens include: nil. The package states that it is free from the 9 most common allergens. 🔶The positives: 🔹Low sugar and saturated fat content, well within healthy eating guidelines. 🔹Sodium (salt) content at 250mg/100g is also within recommendations (less than 420mg/100g) and I’m impressed with this given the de

Chewsday Review- Low Sugar Cheerios

Excellent request for a Chewsday review of the Low Sugar Cheerios. You might have seen them on the shelf and wondered if 'low sugar' is code for 'high fat', or maybe the sugar has just been replaced with another sort of sugar and called something different (lots of products out there doing this!) So, without further ado, I review Uncle Toby's Low Sugar Cheerios. 🔶Ingredients: 🔹Wholegrain cereals make up 78% of this product. The fact that they're 'whole', as opposed to 'parts' of the grain is a real positive. Health benefits of wholegrain consumption are many. 🔹Remaining ingredients are wheat starch, sunflower oil, salt, colours and an acidity regulator. These ingredients help the wholeg
