We know Aussie Kids are Weet-Bix Kids. But what about Weet-Bix FOR Kids? Is this version that much better than regular Weet-Bix?? Let's see in today's Chewsday Review....
🔹wholegrain wheat (97%), raw sugar, calcium, iron, barley malt extract, vitamins B1, B2 and B3.
🔹barley malt extract is a sweetener, made from sprouted grains. Essentially it's another form of sugar.
🔹No added salt, making it a low sodium food (45mg/100g). This is much lower than regular Weet-Bix (270mg/100g).
🔹Very low sugar content at only 2.9g per 100g. This is slightly lower than regular Weet-Bix (3.3g/100g).
🔹Low fat and saturated fat content, well within healthy guidelines and exactly the same as regular Weet-Bix.
🔹An excellent source of fibre at 3.3g per serve, which is the same as regular Weet-Bix. Anything above 3 grams per serve is a high fibre food.
🔹A good source of iron, which is an important nutrient for growth and brain development in kids. About 8% of Australian children up to the age of 4 are thought to be iron deficient.
🔹Weet-Bix for Kids only comes in the small packet, and is slightly more expensive than regular Weet-Bix (88c/100g vs 69c/100g). If you compare it to the bigger bulk packets, the Weet-Bix forKids is more than double the price by weight. Having said that, it's still a very cheap cereal compared to most others!
🔹5 Health stars. Well-deserved.
🔹Tim Cahill endorsed. I'm totally ok with sports stars supporting nutritious foods like Weet-bix.
🔹Vitamins B1, B2 & B3 to help release the energy your child needs to kickstart their day. I'm happy to pay that claim too.
🔹Just for kids. This is my only gripe- why can't it be marketed to the whole family?
🔹This is an exceptional product. I'd highly recommend it as a breakfast option. Add your own fruit for additional sweetness, and milk or yoghurt to make it a complete meal. Big thumbs up from me.
🔹If you stick with regular Weet-Bix, then I think you're still making a great choice. It is higher in sodium, and slightly higher in sugar, but it's still a nutritious cereal so choose based on your family's taste preferences. I buy the regular Weet-Bix for our family.
Happy New Year everyone! See you back here in 2017
